Description

In the near future we will have to deal with the bear more, because it is slowly spreading again in the Alpine region. Wherever he appears, emotions go high. How humans and bears can approach each other in a special way is demonstrated by David Bittner, who has a doctorate in zoology and who has spent many summers in the wilderness of Alaska among bears. The situation in the cultural landscape is different. Reinhard Schnidrig describes in a matter-of-fact, yet very personal manner, how he experienced the return of the bear as the highest ‘bear representative’ in Switzerland, and shows a way in which a peaceful coexistence between man and bear is possible. In addition to many spectacular photographs, the book also contains the biology and ecology of the brown bear. 23x27cm; 240 pages (192 color images), published by Stämpfli Verlag (2009).

The book was updated and reissued in 2013 after the first edition had been sold out since 2011. The story of the second problem bear M13 has also been integrated into the new edition.
