Travel offer
Bear researcher David Bittner accompanies us on our trip to the large coastal brown bears in Katmai National Park. The doctor of biology has been spending his summers in seclusion in Alaska for many years and lives in the neighborhood with the bears. He knows how to express his fascination for these animals in a very sympathetic and contagious way. Under his expert guidance, we experience the mighty animals from the best observation places and as close as possible. Bear watching is guaranteed on this trip and you will be surprised how intimate we can participate in the life of these imposing creatures. Get to know bears up close and personal.
We spend a total of 7 nights on one of two boats that have been conducting bear watching tours in Katmai NP for many years. This boat is our floating home. The number of people for this trip is 6-8 (in exceptional cases 9) people. In this small group we observe the coastal brown bears for a total of 8 days.
The tour package includes transportation by seaplane from Kodiak/Homer to the boat and back as well as full board on the boat. Varied and lovingly prepared meals are served and special consideration is given to individual wishes and needs.
This unique trip is aimed at bear and nature lovers, adventure seekers and photographers. In the pristine wilderness of Alaska we get the unique opportunity to get to know this wonderful landscape and its bears from the most beautiful side.
The trip is carried out at the best observation time either in early summer or late summer.
Early summer is characterized by wonderfully long days. The weather is often better than in late summer. Although we will not see any salmon on this trip and therefore no bears catching salmon, this time of year is characterized by exciting insights into the mating season of the bears. With a bit of luck, you may also see a mother bear with her still extremely small and cute cubs. Occasional intense interactions between cubs and bears feeding on sedges round off this beautiful time of year with impressive landscapes and wonderful spring flowers.
The late summer period is characterized by shorter days. The weather is often unstable and changeable. Instead, countless salmon have returned from the open Pacific to the coast and the rivers. We will be able to observe many bears catching salmon. This most important time of year for the bears is characterized by exciting and thrilling hunting scenes. If you’re lucky, you might also spot a mother bear with her slightly larger but still cute cubs. Occasional intense interactions for rank and dominance status round off this beautiful season with impressive landscapes with changing autumn colors.
